Wreck-It Ralph grosses $49.1 million in opening weekend
Disney's retro gaming movie set for lucrative holiday run
Wreck-It Ralph, Disney's movie mash-up of gaming characters and tropes, brought in a record-breaking $49.1 million in its opening weekend for the House of Mouse's animation studios. Tangled held the previous record at $48.8 million, which doesn't include Pixar Studios' box-office bruisers. The story of the pixelated bad guy gone good looks like it will do quite well over the upcoming Thanksgiving and holiday weekends, Entertainment Weekly reports.
The film starring John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, and more classic game characters than you can shake a stick at, had an estimated budget of $165 million and has earned a Rotten Tomatoes score of 84 percent. Meanwhile, the next closest opening was the Denzel Washington-led Flight, which grossed $25 million on an estimated $31 million budget.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
