Wreck-It Ralph , the latest CG-toon from Disney Animation, has topped the US box-office, taking $49.1m in its opening weekend.

That figure makes it the biggest ever opening for a Disney Animation, as it sneaks just ahead of Tangled .

Despite a strong showing, it didn’t quite match Pixar’s box-office standards, with Brave scoring a weekend haul of $66m earlier this year.

Wreck-It Ralph
’s total was no doubt aided by its wide appeal - adding nostalgic videogame fans to the standard family animation audience.

The catchy premise sees John C Reilly's Ralph tire of life as a videogame baddie, before heading off to try his luck in different arcade games. It turns out that game-jumping isn't without its hazards...

Robert Zemeckis’ live-action comeback Flight performed well in second place, taking £25m, and Argo continued its more-than-decent run by adding $10.2m to its pot (taking it to $75.9m so far).

Wreck-It Ralph opens in the UK on 15 February 2013.
