WWE 2K17's WrestleMania 20 rematch won't go well for Goldberg, says Paul Heyman
WWE 2K17 sees storied rivals Brock Lesnar and Goldberg go face to face for the first time since WrestleMania 20 – but Paul Heyman says Lesnar has nothing to fear, despite losing that infamous bout way back in 2004.
“I don't think Brock Lesnar needs to exact revenge for WrestleMania 20 because, if you now fast forward to the year 2016, it's not Goldberg that's on the cover of WWE 2K17,” says Heyman, longtime advocate for the former UFC and WWE champ. “It's Brock Lesnar.”
The pair's meeting 12 years ago quickly turned into a farce, with both wrestlers booed from the outset after news that each planned to leave the WWE immediately afterwards leaked. Goldberg won the match, but following the bout both he and Lesnar received 'Stone Cold stunners' from Steve Austin.
“The reigning, defending, undisputed Knight Mayor of Suplex City is Brock Lesnar," says Heyman. "And in this game, it's Bill Goldberg that has to come up to challenge Brock Lesnar for his top spot, for his dominance over Suplex City. It's not Brock Lesnar having to challenge Bill Goldberg.”
The goateed brawler, himself a former WCW champion, is just one of a trio of opponents Heyman says will be getting a virtual beating from The Beast. “Am I looking forward to seeing Brock Lesnar versus Bill Goldberg or Brock Lesnar versus John Cena or Brock Lesnar versus Warrior in this game? I like watching Brock Lesnar conquer people all day long. I don't think Bill Goldberg in this game is going to be too happy with the end result."
Cover star Lesnar is the fourth on-disc superstar announced for this year's game, alongside Cena, Warrior, and super-talented female debutant Sasha Banks. Goldberg, meanwhile, is available as pre-order DLC.
On Monday Heyman told GR+ that the only thing missing from Lesnar's cover shoot was the WWE belt. We'll have more from our interview later this week.
WWE 2K17 is released for PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 on 11 October.
