Xbox Series X optimized games are cross-gen Xbox titles that have gotten an upgrade worthy of next-gen gaming. Lucky for you, most of these titles will be available as free upgrades via Microsoft's Smart Delivery deal, and 20 of them will be available on the November 10 Xbox Series X launch day.
Some third-party optimized games will be paid upgrades, however, so you'll want to have an idea of which titles are which before you pick up an Xbox Series X this November. But how do you know which games are being Xbox Series X optimized and which support Smart Delivery? You read this guide, of course.
In a recent Xbox Wire, Microsoft announced that 30 games will be fully optimized for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S launch day. Twenty of those games will be upgraded automatically through Smart Delivery. Confusingly, Microsoft previously confirmed that "all Xbox Game Studios titles that are Optimized for Xbox Series X" will support Smart Delivery, but a number of Xbox Game Studios-published games including Fable, Everwild, State of Decay 2, and Hellblade 2 aren't listed as supporting Smart Delivery on Xbox's own website.

For the uninitiated, Smart Delivery is a new program from Microsoft that lets you download an Xbox Series X-optimized version of a game for free if you already own it for Xbox One. Microsoft has also confirmed that the above games will support Smart Delivery even if you're playing them on Xbox Game Pass. Want to know more? Further, some Xbox Series X-optimized games will be available after the console launches. Cyberpunk 2077, Microsoft notes, will be playable for free on Xbox Series X at launch if you own it on Xbox One, but the optimized version will come at a later date.
Finally, Microsoft also clarified that cross-progression is a feature supported by Smart Delivery, so your progress carries over from the Xbox One version to the Xbox Series X-optimized game.
